Places to See in Aegina Island

It's amazing to be so close to Athens and step into such a different world. Aegina takes you away from the city and invites you into a different rhythm. If you are looking for history, the sea and a life that knows how to slow down, a few days here will do you a lot of good.

Temple of Aphaia: Located on the eastern side of the island, on a hill close to Agia Marina. The view is simply amazing. This ancient Doric temple dates from around 500 BC and was built at the same time as the Parthenon in Athens.

Aegina Archaeological Museum: A small but impressive museum near the center of the island. It was founded in 1828 - the first archaeological museum in Greece. Ceramics, sculptures, details that smell of history.

Kolona Archaeological Site: A little further along the harbor, a single column rises from the ancient Temple of Apollo. Simple but impressive. I recommend you to go especially near sunset, the view is beautiful with the light.

Agios Nektarios Monastery: A very special place for those who live on the island. Dedicated to Agios Nektarios, this monastery has a spiritual serenity and is architecturally quite magnificent. Whether you are a believer or not, there is something soothing about such places.

Perdika Village: One of the most delightful villages in the south of the island. Taverns lined up by the sea, a leisurely pace, lovely boats. You can also take the boats from here to Moni Island for a short island getaway.

Portes Village: Our recommendation for those looking for a quieter, shabbier place. The sea is clear and the nature is untouched. It is very peaceful especially in the early morning.

Agia Marina Beach: One of the best known beaches for those who want to swim, sunbathe and try some water sports. It's a bit more touristy than the other places, but the crowds are not uncomfortable.
