Things to do in Aegina Island

Time moves slowly on the island of Aegina. Every corner is full of history, nature and serenity. If you are lucky enough to spend a few days on the island, you will find yourself not just chasing a “sightseeing list” but actually becoming part of the atmosphere. First, make your way to the Temple of Aphaia, towering among the pine trees on a hill close to Agia Marina. Dating back to 500 BC, this elegant structure fascinates not only history buffs but anyone looking for a quiet break in nature. The view of the Aegean from up high is simply breathtaking. When you go down to the center of the island, you will be greeted by the Archaeological Site of Kolona. Once one of the most sacred spots in Aegina, a single column from the Temple of Apollo stretches into the sky. Next door, the Archaeological Museum pays homage to history with its small but elaborate exhibitions. It is also the first archaeological museum in Greece, which gives it a special meaning. If you go further inland, you will come across the Monastery of Agios Nektarios. It is a place that calms you not only for religious reasons but also for its architecture and peaceful atmosphere. You should visit especially in the morning. If you want to physically experience the phrase “getting away from the noise of the city”, Perdika Village is the place for you. The salty breeze and the view of Moni Island in the distance accompany you as you taste the fresh seafood in the restaurants along the quay. Taking a boat from there to Moni can also add a little adventure to your day. Another lesser-known corner of the island, but definitely worth a visit, is Portes. Quiet, simple and natural. If you like swimming in the sea or just want to put your feet in the water and read a book, you should definitely visit this place. And let's not forget Agia Marina. Despite being one of the most well-known beaches in Aegina, it still manages to remain intimate. The sea is clear, the shore is soft and there is a peacefulness that beckons you. Not to mention a walk along the beach towards the sunset.
