Spetses Island Guide

Just a few hours' drive from Athens, Spetses is a small Aegean island that fascinates with its history and nature. Largely closed to car traffic, its clean streets can be explored on foot or by bicycle, and it's a great option for those who want to get away from the crowds and take refuge in tranquility. What awaits you when you go to Spetses, we have brought it all together.

Journey to the History of Spetses Island

Spetses Museum (Hadjiyannis Mexis Mansion): Built in 1798, this magnificent mansion houses many artifacts that shed light on the history of the island. The historic building itself and the ancient objects, documents and costumes inside will take you back in time. If you love history, don't return without stopping by.

Bouboulina House and Museum: The house where Laskarina Bouboulina, one of the heroines of the Greek War of Independence, lived is now a museum. Meeting her courage and listening to her story is a very inspiring experience.

The Most Beautiful Beaches of Spetses Island

Agia Paraskevi Beach: Golden sands, sparkling sea and just the right amount of calm... This is a great place to swim and soak up the sun.

Zogeria Beach: Surrounded by pine trees, this natural bay is a little more secluded, a little quieter. You can reach it by walking or by boat from the sea. Perfect for those looking for peace.

Agia Anargiri & Bekiri Cave: There is a hidden cave right next to this beach in the south of the island. This cave, which you can reach by swimming or walking, is a very pleasant spot to cool off.

What to do in Spetses Island?

Bicycle & ATV Tours: One of the most beautiful things about Spetses is that there are very few cars. Therefore, it is both enjoyable and very easy to visit the island by bicycle or small ATV vehicles. Especially pedaling along the coastal road is great.

Boat Tours: If you want to explore the hidden bays around the island and swim in virgin places where you can only enter the sea from the boat, we strongly recommend you to join boat tours. The captains are usually sweet to talk to :)

Where to Eat in Spetses Island?

Bouboulina Taverna: This family-run taverna won our hearts. With its friendly atmosphere, delicious food and reasonable prices, it is a place you will want to visit several times on the island. Especially the seafood appetizers are amazing.

Patralis Psarotaverna: A fish restaurant for a more special dinner. The view is beautiful, but some dishes may not live up to expectations. It was a bit of an unlucky evening for us, but overall a popular restaurant.

Liotrivi Restaurant: Converted from an old olive oil press, this restaurant stands out with its atmosphere and menu. Carefully prepared dishes await you in a historical setting.

Souvlucky: Just around the corner from the square, this is a tiny little food spot. There are practical but very tasty options such as skewers, pita bread and doner kebabs. Ideal if you're on a budget or just want a quick bite.

Roussos Cafe: There's nothing like sipping your coffee overlooking the harbor and starting the day with homemade cookies. You can stop by every morning and make your “where to go today” plans here.

Entertainment on Spetses Island

Palio Limani Bar: Located in the old harbor, this bar is a great place to have a cocktail and watch the sea at sunset or in the evening. The music playing in the background washes away the tiredness of the day.

Akrogiali Bar: On the edge of the beach, with your feet in the sand and a refreshing drink in your hand... One of the best spots to watch the sunset in Spetses.

Votsalo & Loco Bar: If you want a more lively evening with live music and dancing, these two places are the address of entertainment on the island.
