Places to Eat in Spetses Island
You can't come to Spetses and not have a good meal. With its unique taverns, shabby fishermen and cafes with coffee and soul-satisfying cafes, this island will touch your heart as well as your palate.
Bouboulina Taverna: One of the rare places in Spetses that we call “our place” and become regulars. This cozy, family-run tavern will make you feel at home. You'll be pleased with everything you eat, especially the seafood appetizers, grilled octopus and homemade wines. The prices are very reasonable by island standards. The location is also very central: In the bazaar on the main street, right next to the small fish market.
Kapelogiannis Taverna (Καπελογιάννης): Perfect for a peaceful dinner in the old harbor, with tables right on the waterfront. It's a shabby place but focuses on the food and the view. You can feel the care of being a family run business. Everything was delicious, especially the fried calamari and fresh fish. Prices are a bit higher but the ambiance and quality more than make up for the difference.
Souvlucky: A quick but heartfelt recommendation. It's a tiny place with just a few tables and stools, just diagonally across the pier in the square. But the flavor is big. Shish, doner, pita... Whatever you eat, it's filling and budget-friendly. Don't miss it, especially if you're looking for a practical meal in between a busy day.
Patralis Psarotaverna (Πατραλής): Keep in mind for a slightly special evening, perhaps a celebration or a romantic meal. The location is good, the service attentive. The menu is rich, especially the fresh fish options are ambitious. It's best to make a reservation before you go.
Roussos Cafe: If you want to sip your coffee against the harbor and enjoy Spetses in the cool of the morning, this is the place for you.
Additional suggestion: While walking through the back streets of Spetses and along the beach, be sure to taste marzipan (amygdalota) at the local patisseries. It is one of the traditional desserts of the island and goes great with a freddo espresso.
