Skiathos Guide
Skiathos, one of the Sporades Islands in Greece, gently touches the soul with its unpretentious beauty. The island has a charm of its own—neither too flashy nor too quiet. Just right. As you walk along the pine-scented paths, one thought keeps repeating itself: “I’m so glad I’m here.”
Getting to Skiathos
Reaching Skiathos is not as complicated as you might think.
Regular ferry services operate from Volos and Agios Konstantinos.
If you're in Athens, a 45-minute domestic flight will get you there easily.
The island has a small but efficient airport, and during the summer season, there are direct flights from several European cities.
Stepping onto the island feels less like arriving at a destination and more like stepping straight into vacation mode.
Where to Swim in Skiathos
Koukounaries Beach: Famous for its golden sand and the pine forest that embraces it. It’s the most popular beach on the island, though it can get crowded in high season.
Lalaria Beach: Only accessible by boat. With its smooth white pebbles, turquoise water, and steep cliffs behind, it looks like it was made for a postcard. You can almost hear the silence here.
Big & Small Aselinos: Located on the northern coast. A bit off the beaten path—peaceful, slightly breezy, and scenic with Mount Kounistra forming the perfect backdrop.
What to Do in Skiathos
Hiking & Nature: About 70% of Skiathos is covered in lush greenery, and there are around 25 marked hiking trails across the island. Whether you're a beginner or experienced hiker, there's a trail for you.
One of the most scenic routes is between Evangelistria and Kechria Monasteries—a peaceful two-hour walk through the heart of the island. Sit under an olive tree for a picnic, and you'll truly feel like you've arrived.
Cultural Spots: Alexandros Papadiamantis House: Visit the museum dedicated to one of Greece’s most beloved authors, who was born, lived, and died on the island.
Agios Nikolaos Church & Clock Tower: This spot offers a panoramic view of the town and sea. Don’t leave the island without coming here.
Evening Vibes in Hora (Skiathos Town): At sunset, the streets of Skiathos Town come alive. Live music drifts through the alleys, people stroll by the marina, and a cold drink with the sound of waves makes for the perfect evening.
What to Eat in Skiathos
Fresh seafood,
Olive oil-rich dishes,
Zesty salads,
And long conversations with ouzo on the side…
Restaurants like Marmita, Castella, and Gravisi serve not just food but an experience. That said, happiness in Skiathos can also be a slice of pizza on a bench by the beach. Simple, but unforgettable.
