Once called “Fiore di Levante” by the Venetians - the Flower of the East - Zakynthos still displays its nobility, fertility and natural beauty in all its splendor. This Ionian island continues to fascinate visitors today as it did centuries ago. Vacationers are often attracted by the island's famous beaches - Laganas, Tsilivi, Argassi, Kalamaki, Alykes. Especially British, French and Italian tourists know how to capture the rhythm of the island. But if you are looking for memories that will last a lifetime in every detail, you will find much more in Zakynthos. The feeling of freedom you get from swimming at Shipwreck Beach, the peacefulness you feel while watching the sunset from the cliffs of Keri and Kryoneri, drinking coffee with kantata in a village café and the chance to watch loggerhead turtles laying their eggs on the white sand. They are all waiting for you on this island.

What to do in Zante?

The beaches waiting for you around the island turn into a visual feast. At the tip of your boat, you will be amazed by the natural beauties lined up one after the other: Laganas' vibrancy, Gerakas' tranquility, Vasilikos' expanse, Marathonisi's exotic atmosphere and, of course, Navagio Beach, popularly known as Shipwreck, a natural wonder with its white cliffs, turquoise waters and the sunken ship in the middle.

A Boat Trip to Shipwreck: Navagio Beach is only accessible by sea. Early in the morning or close to sunset, before the crowds arrive, hop on your boat and make your own time. Here you will hear nothing but the sound of the sea and nature.

On the Trail of the Caretta Caretta: The waters around Zakynthos are home to Greece's first marine park. This park is the breeding ground for the endangered loggerhead turtle. Every year in spring, these magnificent creatures travel hundreds of kilometers from the Libyan Sea and the Adriatic to the shores of Gerakas, Dafni, Kalamaki and Laganas, giving you a chance to witness the magic of nature. If one day you come across them laying their eggs, just watch. Silently, respectfully.

Bokhali and Beyond: Zante is mesmerizing not only for its sea but also for its scenery. Just 2 km from the city center, Bokhali is a place where time seems to stand still with its nostalgic streets, stone houses and cozy cafes. From here, the view of Argassi and the Gulf of Laganas makes you forget the tiredness of the day. A little further down the road, hidden among the trees, the Venetian castle awaits you, as if history and nature have joined hands.

Church of St. Dionysios: This church, which houses the relics of St. Dionysios, the spiritual symbol of Zakynthos, also fascinates with its architecture. Built in 1926, the three-nave basilica survived the devastating earthquake that hit the island in 1953. A miracle for believers and a masterpiece for engineers. Whichever you choose, the peace that envelops you inside is undeniable.

Strofades and Other Secrets: 37 nautical miles south of Zante lie two small islets that many tourists have never even heard of: Strofades. A 15th century stone monastery still stands on these isolated islands. Legend has it that an icon arrived here unharmed after being kidnapped from the iconoclasts and thrown into the sea. A place steeped in faith, forgotten by time...

Kiliomeno: In the interior of the island lies the village of Kiliomeno with its stone houses and flowered balconies. Locals jokingly explain that the Rolling Stones got their name from this village, after all the word “kiliomeno” means “rolling”! But jokes aside, this village is the perfect place to experience the traditional spirit of Zakynthos.

Wine and Vineyards: The island's fertile soil is rich in wine. More than 60 grape varieties are grown in hundreds of hectares of vineyards. You can taste both the grape and the labor in family-run wineries.

Solomos Estate: Local wines prepared with traditional production techniques stand out here.
Goumas Winery: Where art meets wine, this place appeals to both the palate and the soul.
Ktima Grampsa: Combining the old with modern touches, this winery is one of the most popular stops on the island.
