Things to do in Akyaka

As soon as I stepped into Akyaka, the first thing I felt was peace. My walk along the Azmak River, which started in the cool of the morning, was like entering a moment when time slowed down. The water was so clear that the seaweed at the bottom seemed to dance. Then I couldn't resist and went on a small boat tour. The experience was like getting lost among the reeds on both sides of the river as you floated silently... And the water was so cool that even when you dip your hand in, your whole body feels fresh.

After Azmak, I cycled to Aşıklar Yolu. A journey in the shade of eucalyptus trees, accompanied only by bird sounds from time to time... You immediately understand why people call this place “Aşıklar”. It makes you want to write poetry.

Early one morning, I went up to Sakartepe Observation Terrace. With the first rays of the sun, the Gulf of Gökova was at my feet. While the wind was licking my face, drinking my coffee against the view was indescribable. Everything was so calm, so serene.

Then I wanted to jump in the sea, so I went to Çınar Beach. It is both cool and shallow, especially suitable for families with children, but I was as happy as the kids! The clarity of the water... The coolness of Azmak mixes with the sea, but that sweet warmth remains. Akbük Bay was the place where blue and green met. I went there, lay on a sun lounger, opened my book, but the view was so beautiful that I stopped reading and just looked around.

Akyaka also has adrenaline. I couldn't resist windsurfing. In the area where Azmak flows into the sea, the wind is just right. I had a little difficulty at first, but after a few tries I found the balance and it was addictive.

One day I decided to smell a bit of history and stopped by Azmak Rock Tombs. They stand like silent witnesses of the past, intertwined with nature. It was most impressive at sunset. That redness, filtering through the stones, carried me to another period of time.

And finally Sedir Island... Even the rumor that Cleopatra swam here was enough for me to go. The sands are really different, fine and golden. It was a very special feeling to walk among the ancient ruins and swim in the sea.

Of course, I crowned each day with fresh appetizers and a glass of white wine at a restaurant by the Azmak River. The sound of water in the background, as the sun slowly set...
