Villa Kantarlı
“Summer is not a season, it’s a state of mind.” — Susan Branch
A warm hello to everyone reading these lines like a cool Aegean breeze in the heart of summer! Right now, I’m in Datça, sipping my morning coffee in the jasmine-scented garden of Villa Kantarlı. 🌼 Birds are singing, the sun is neither burning nor hiding… and I find myself thinking, “This is it.” You know those places that feel like home the moment you arrive? This is one of them. But don’t get me wrong — this isn’t a love letter meant only to praise. Because no vacation spot is perfect. And frankly, it doesn’t need to be. 🤍
Architecture, Jasmine, and Summer
Villa Kantarlı has a slightly different story. Two siblings — an architect and an engineer — decided to leave behind their careers in construction and transform their family’s old business in Datça Harbor. For them, hospitality wasn’t just a profession; it was about coming together as a family and creating a space that feels like home. You can truly feel this warmth here. 🏡
The hotel isn’t luxurious, but comfortably mid-to-upscale, designed with an elegant simplicity. Every design detail is understated yet eye-catching. The garden is filled with lavender, jasmine, olive trees… and when you open your window in the morning, the first thing you breathe in is nature. 🌿
Starting the Day in the Sea 🍳🏖️
Most mornings start like this: a 5-minute walk to Kumluk Beach, a short dip in the calm, glassy sea, then back to the garden for a traditional Turkish breakfast. Homemade jams, local cheeses, sun-ripened tomatoes… everything simple, balanced, and full of flavor. After breakfast comes the big question: “What do I do with the day?” And in Datça, there’s plenty to do. 🌞
Savoring Datça Slowly
On my first day, I visited Kargı Bay, just a few minutes from the center. A mix of organized and untouched areas, it’s perfect for lounging with a book under the shade. For dinner, I returned to Kumluk Beach. Tables by the sea, a light breeze, local olive oil dishes… the taste lingered, but so did the feeling. 🐟🍋
The second day was for a boat tour. Departing at 10 a.m., just 10 minutes from the hotel, the route covered untouched bays between Domuz Çukuru and Kargı. At lunch, we were served watermelon on deck — and honestly, what more do you need? On the way back, I wandered the stone-paved streets of Old Datça, passing the former home of Turkish poet Can Yücel. I paused and thought: “How can so little say so much?” 📖
On day three, I took a break at Palamutbükü for a shady ice cream stop. I ended the day watching the sun set over the ruins of Knidos Ancient City — the colors shifting from orange to purple, everything going still. It was the kind of beauty that doesn’t need a filter. 🧿
Nightlife? It Exists 🎷
For those with young hearts, here are a couple of spots: Flow Surf Club and Mayandatça at Kairos Marina. The vibe is nice, the music chill, but remember — nightlife in the Aegean is a bit more peaceful, a little more soulful than rowdy crowds. 🍹🌌
Who Is This Place For?
📍 If you love nature,
📍 If morning swims followed by coffee are your vibe,
📍 If you appreciate minimalist, thoughtful design,
📍 If you prefer cozy guesthouses over busy resorts…
Villa Kantarlı might just be your place.
But if you’re after party holidays, ultra-luxury, or buffet-and-animation-style resorts, well… Datça might be a bit too quiet for you. 😅
Small But Important Notes
📌 Pets are not allowed.
📌 Kumluk Beach is sandy with moderate depth and clean water.
If you’re looking for a summer escape that makes you think “I should have been here,” then Villa Kantarlı may just be that small but meaningful stop. With the Aegean’s slowness, the scent of jasmine, and pristine mornings, it quietly waits for you. 💙
