Four Villages from Türkiye Listed Among the UN’s “Best Tourism Villages 2025”

Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy announced that four villages from Türkiye have been included in the United Nations World Tourism Organization’s (UNWTO) list of the “Best Tourism Villages 2025.”

In a statement shared on his social media account, Minister Ersoy said that Akyaka in Muğla, Barbaros in İzmir, Anıtlı in Mardin, and Kale Üçağız in Antalya were recognized among the world’s best tourism destinations for their natural beauty, deep-rooted cultures, and sustainable tourism practices.

Emphasizing that four Turkish villages were ranked among the best in the world, Ersoy stated:

“These villages, which stand out with their natural beauty, rich cultural heritage, and commitment to sustainable tourism, showcase the richness of Anatolia to the world. We view tourism not merely as an economic activity, but as a force that preserves our cultural heritage, supports local development, and puts people at the center. With this approach, we will continue to develop rural tourism, sustain local values, and share them with the world across our country. I extend my gratitude to everyone who contributed to this achievement and to our Directorate General for EU and Foreign Relations for managing the process meticulously.”
52 Villages Selected Worldwide

According to a statement from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, 52 villages from 29 countries were honored within the scope of the UNWTO’s “Best Tourism Villages” initiative, now in its fifth edition.

Selected from over 270 applications from Africa, the Americas, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East, the villages were evaluated based on criteria such as cultural heritage preservation, sustainable use of natural resources, and tourism’s contribution to local development.

The list was announced at a ceremony held in Huzhou, China. In addition, 20 villages were included in the “Upgrade Program” to receive support toward achieving “Best Tourism Village” status in the future.
With this new list, the total number of villages in the “Best Tourism Villages Network” has reached 319.

The UN World Tourism Organization announced that applications for the 6th edition of the “Best Tourism Villages” initiative will open in the first quarter of 2026.
