Limnos Island Guide
When we think of the Greek islands, we often think of the fun of Mykonos or the romantic landscapes of Santorini. But sometimes it's much better to stay out of the crowds, to be on your own but full of soul. Limnos is a Greek island in the northern Aegean, neighboring Lesbos and Samothrace. It offers a very special alternative thanks to its proximity to Turkey and its naturalness away from exaggerated tourism.
How to get there?
There are no direct flights to Limnos from Turkey. It is usually the most practical way to reach by plane via Athens. Alternatively, you can take ferries from Thessaloniki or Kavala. If you like different routes, even this journey can be part of your vacation.
History and Story
Limnos is known as the island of the blacksmith god Hephaistos in mythology. According to legend, Hephaistos forged weapons for the gods in the volcanic mountains here. Indeed, the geological structure of the island is impressive enough to give rise to these legends.
