Things to do in Erciyes

Going to Erciyes is not really about getting somewhere, but getting closer to yourself. At first glance, it may seem distant and cold with its snowy summit, but as you get closer, something warm starts to stir inside you. One is not just sightseeing or skiing there, one remembers something, gets away from something, touches something again. A laugh in the snow, leaning your back against the mountain on the cable car and looking into the void, or quietly diving into the mist of a cup of tea. These are things that are “done” in Erciyes, yes, but more often they are things that are “felt.” Even those who don't know how to ski throw themselves to the edge of the piste, because sometimes even the sound of the snow is enough. You fall, you get up, you laugh. Reflexes forgotten in the city are remembered again there. Even being cold is beautiful in Erciyes. It gets cold, but then you warm up by a stove and that warmth is much more precious. Maybe you'll eat manti in a corner, with a nevzine dessert on top. Maybe you eat not to fill up but to remember your childhood, your mother, a quiet table. If you go in summer, this time the wind will surround you instead of snow. You go for a mountain hike, you get tired but you feel like a burden has been lifted. You sit on a rock, close your eyes, think of nothing and maybe for the first time in a long time you are really there, in that moment. Time flows differently in Erciyes.  The sky is clearer, the silence is deeper, you are more you. If one goes there not for “what can I do?” but for “what will I feel?”, one will not return empty. Because in Erciyes, you live like a human being. And sometimes that alone is enough.
