Things to do in Abant
If you really want to breathe, Abant is the perfect escape. You will understand when you go; it is beautiful in all four seasons. I went in the spring, but everyone praises the fall, walking among those yellow and orange tones is indescribable.
Walking around the Lake is a must: The first thing to do is to walk around Lake Abant. There is a track of about 7 kilometers, but it is so enjoyable that time flows like water. Nature is so calm that only bird sounds accompany you. There are benches in places, even sitting and watching the lake in silence is like therapy.
A word of advice: Go for a walk early in the morning, it is calmer and you have the chance to see the thin curtain of fog above the lake.
Rent a Bike, You Won't Regret It: For those who don't want to walk, there is also the option of renting a bicycle. Pedaling around the lake is both fun and quite cool. It is especially delicious in summer.
Lake Tour by Boat or Water Bike: If it's a calm day, don't return without taking a boat tour around the lake. Seeing the lake from a different angle is a completely different experience. Water biking is also a very entertaining alternative.
A Paradise for Fishermen: Ideal for those who love fishing. There is Abant trout in the lake, a local fish species. It is a very nice endeavor for amateur fishermen.
Use the Picnic Areas: There are plenty of picnic areas by the lake. We took tea in a thermos and made sandwiches, it is a pleasure to eat in that nature.
Tip: Go to an uncrowded corner, it's much more peaceful if you go a little further away.
Visit the Peasant Market: Don't skip the peasant market at the entrance of Abant. Homemade jams, natural honey, butter, handmade baskets, wooden ornaments... I especially loved the jam varieties. Aunties are very friendly and they make you taste :)
The color riot of leaves in autumn, every shade of green in spring, white landscape in winter... Every corner is Instagram worthy. Especially if you catch a photo by the lake at sunset, you get great shots.
For breakfast, be sure to try the mixed village breakfast. Everything from jams to butter is organic.
For lunch, try fresh fish by the lake or at the trout farms in the neighborhood. Trout with kashkaval is especially recommended.
Abant kebab, grilled quail and classic barbecue... They are all beautiful.
