Thessaloniki... Neither fully European nor fully Balkan. It neither has the spirit of a classic Greek island, nor is it tiring with the chaos of a metropolis. But it has a completely different spirit born from the combination of all these. It is both familiar and foreign. Maybe that's why, when you visit one day, the phrase “I would live here” comes out of your heart. Thessaloniki, the largest city in Northern Greece, is the perfect place for those who want to “slow down” with its relaxed life by the sea, cultural heritage, delicious cuisine and friendly people.

Places to Visit in Thessaloniki

When it comes to Thessaloniki, one of the first places that comes to mind for Turks is undoubtedly the house where Mustafa Kemal Atatürk was born. It is located very close to the city center, on Apostolou Pavlou Street, right next to the Turkish Consulate. The house, which is open to visitors as a museum today, contains Atatürk's childhood belongings, family photos and documents from the period. When you step inside the house, a different feeling envelops you. It is a stop that touches the heart of every Turk visiting Thessaloniki.

As soon as you set foot in Thessaloniki, there is one thing you must do: walk along the coast. While the city is just waking up in the morning, grab a Freddo Cappucino and walk along the seaside. The smell of the sea, the sound of seagulls and the slowly filling cafes will be your gateway to the heart of Thessaloniki.

The first stop is of course the White Tower. One of the most iconic buildings in the city. Bearing traces of both the Ottoman and Byzantine periods, this tower is now a museum. When you climb to the top, the city is at your feet.

When you take the tower behind you, Aristotle Square welcomes you after a few steps. This large and spacious square is the meeting point of Thessaloniki. The cafes are full of people having their morning coffee, sitting on benches reading a book or just watching the silence. Take your time. This city invites you to slow down, not rush.

If you want to get out of Thessaloniki for a day, Mount Olympus, an hour away, is a great route. Home to the twelve gods of Greek mythology, this mountain is not only mythological but also breathtaking in nature. The town of Litochoro at the foot of the mountain, with its stone houses, hiking trails and quiet nature, offers an inner break.

Entertainment in Thessaloniki

Skyline: 360 degree views of the city can be seen here.

Vogatsikou 3: A bar known for its live music, its cocktails are very popular.

Ladadika: One of the most famous neighborhoods of Thessaloniki. It is the number one choice for taverns, bars and nightclubs. In 2015, National Geographic named it one of the top 10 nightlife cities in the world.

Aristotle Square: The most popular cafes and bars in the city center. It is a place we recommend for those who want to spend time in a quieter and more touristic center.
