Places to Eat in Sifnos Island
Sifnos is a Greek island that stands out not only for its peaceful Aegean atmosphere, but also for its delicious cuisine. The influence of Sifnos chef Nikolaos Tselementes, a pioneer of modern Greek cuisine, is still felt in the island's restaurants today. Chickpea soup “revithada”, meat dishes cooked in a wood oven, goat cheeses and honey desserts are among the must-taste delicacies here.
- Giorgos Lempesis Taverna is a nostalgic setting on the seafront, in the shade of the trees. Flavors unique to the island such as mastelo (lamb cooked with wine and dill) and chickpea stew “rovythia” are very well made here.
- To Tsikali, located on the beach right next to the church, is famous for its eponymous stew. The baked stuffed tomatoes and pancetta (bacon) are among the favorites.
- Bola is a simple but elegant address for coffee, an aperitif or an afternoon cocktail.
- At Captain Andreas, you can try fresh fish, lobster, crab, octopus and calamari. Whatever comes out of the sea comes to the table. Shabby but very delicious.
- Giorgos & Dimitris Taverna is not very fancy, but its traditional dishes cooked in a wood oven are surprisingly successful. Ideal for a simple Greek evening in a quiet, peaceful setting.
- If you're looking for something more modern and sophisticated, head to Nero & Alati for a selection of contemporary Greek and Mediterranean cuisine.
- A historic coffee house and tavern. A true Sifnos classic. You can find the best examples of meze and traditional Greek cuisine at Drakaki's.
- Rambagas & Cayenne is ideal for those looking for something a little more contemporary, a little more stylish. It serves Greek dishes with a chef's touch.
- Greek desserts, especially lokma, are very successful at Three Angels.
- To Stavri is a bakery frequented by the islanders. The fresh pastries and ice creams are delicious.
- Gad Bar & Cosi Bar are two popular places for an evening drink or a night out. Gad Bar is a bit more “bohemian”, Cosi Bar is more energetic.
- Maria Lebesis' restaurant, with one of the best views in Kastro. Maria and Vasilis' traditional recipes for revythokeftedes (chickpea meatballs) and homemade meatballs are very good.
- For Coffee & Dessert: Dolci, To Konaki, Banana's Bar
- The village of Artemonas is one of the most peaceful and traditional places in Sifnos.
Mosaico: Ideal for appetizers and snacks.
To Xryso: A home cooking restaurant.
Tratamento: Famous for its ice cream.
Theodrou: A must for traditional desserts.
- If you want to take a break from Greek food, Mamma Mia, an Italian restaurant, is located in Platy Gialos and Apollonia. Run by chef Filippo and his son, it's famous for its pizzas and homemade pasta, which have won awards throughout Greece.
