The surname Chantzis originates from the Greek word “chani”, meaning inn or hotel, symbolizing the family’s deep-rooted connection to hospitality.

The story begins in 1945, when Panagiotis Chantzis and later his son Themis Chantzis established themselves in the fields of clothing retail, textile manufacturing, and commerce. Guided by vision and entrepreneurial spirit, Themis took a new step in 1999, purchasing a small seaside plot with the intention of creating a family summer home.

What began as a personal retreat soon evolved into a landmark project. In 2003, Ktima Chantzi, a real estate development of 100 holiday homes, was founded, marking the family’s first venture into the realm of leisure and hospitality.

Building upon this legacy, in 2015, Natalia and Panos Chantzis brought to life Avaton Luxury Beach Resort, a contemporary expression of the family’s dedication to refined hospitality and timeless elegance.

Avaton became a member of Relais & Châteaux in 2017, joining a global collection of exceptional hotels and restaurants that embody the art of living. In 2020, the resort expanded with 40 new rooms, further enhancing its capacity to welcome guests from around the world to experience the essence of Greek seaside luxury.

Today, the Chantzis family continues to embody its ancestral name — guardians of a heritage of hospitality that has evolved from a humble “chani” into an internationally acclaimed resort destination.
