Places to see in Demre
There are several ancient cities in Antalya Demre, and the most famous of them is the ancient city of Myra. I highly recommend visiting this place. There are rock-carved houses resembling the Sumela Monastery. The houses and structures are mounted this way. Then, there is an ancient theater here that you should definitely see. The Church of St. Nicholas, also known as Santa Claus Church, is located here. The Lycian Civilizations Museum is also in Demre. The ancient city of Andriake, which is close to Demre, is also one of the places worth visiting.
Moreover, Demre Bird Paradise is a magnificent place that hosts about 150 different species of birds. Continuing with the natural beauties, Taşdibi Beach awaits you with its crystal-clear waters. The sunken city of Kekova and Kekova Beach are also among the preferred places. The chance of seeing caretta carettas here in Demre is quite high. You should definitely see Simena Ancient City, known as Kale Village. Üçağız Ancient City is also among the places to visit here. There are natural terraces in this area, and when combined with the turquoise sea and the stunning view, it leaves you with unforgettable memories. You should also visit Kekova, the area known for its colonies, preferably through boat tours.
Ancient Sites: The beautiful Hoyran Ancient City, with its magnificent Mediterranean view, Myra, Andriake, St. Nicholas Church, the Lycian Museum, Kale Village, and the Sunken City.
Our region, with its sea, mountains, archaeological and historical assets, is one of the significant destinations for cultural tourism. In this context, our region has made significant progress in becoming a center for nature sports in Turkey. There are many quality firms where you can receive services in the following fields, either by yourself or through the companies we work with.
Blue Cruise: It is not a dream to explore the charming coves and islands of the Mediterranean, embracing history and natural beauties by boat. About 40 years ago, only sailors could reach these uniquely beautiful coves and islands, but now anyone can sail with a traditional wooden gulet. While enjoying the blue voyage, you can also swim, dive with or without scuba gear, fish, jet ski, or surf.
Hiking / Lycian Way Hiking: With its nature, geographical location, and historical sites, Hoyran and its surroundings offer unique opportunities for hikers. Located at the very center of Lycia, it has incredible hiking routes of varying difficulties in both the east and west directions. The Lycian Way, a 500 km trail selected by Sunday Times as one of the 'World's Top 10 Walking Routes,' has recently attracted the attention of nature and history enthusiasts. This unique adventure, which can be experienced with a guidebook about the Lycian Way or through agencies organizing hiking tours, awaits its explorers.
In the Hoyran area, where you can find a hiking route suitable for any season, the most suitable time for coastal regions is between October and May. Experiencing the beauty of the Mediterranean mountains, walking among the scents of thyme, sage, and many wild plants, exploring ancient cities, and watching the Mediterranean’s coastline and coves give you the feeling of being in a completely different world.
Underwater Sports (Diving): Kaş is one of the most important diving centers of the Mediterranean region, thanks to its beautiful coves, rich underwater fauna and flora, shipwrecks, and caves. There are over ten diving schools, and diving is possible year-round. The most popular time for scuba diving is between March and November. After courses offered in Turkish, German, English, and French, diving can be done at different depths depending on the lessons received.
Paragliding: Paragliding is done in Kaş from Asas Mountain, which is at an altitude of 1000 meters, accompanied by expert pilots. Experiencing Kaş's coves and islets while gliding in the air is described by those who have tried it as 'an adventure everyone should experience at least once in their life.' With modern and reliable equipment and experienced instructors, anyone can try paragliding. If weather conditions permit, paragliding can be done throughout the year.
Sea Kayaking: One of the most popular activities in recent years, sea kayaking can be done in the surrounding areas of Hoyran and the Üçağız-Kekova region. This activity offers the opportunity to both exercise and participate in a tour on the blue waters of the Mediterranean, exploring coves and ancient ruins that cannot be reached by land. Sea kayaking can be done throughout the year.
Mountain Biking: Mountain biking in the Taurus Mountains means leaving the main road and discovering dirt roads, valleys, canyons, villages, and Lycian-era ruins. As you pedal while breathing in the fresh mountain air, you can take in the detailed, panoramic view of the coastline.
Jeep Safari: For those who want to enjoy nature without much physical effort, jeep safaris are an exciting option.
