Things to do in Paxos Island

Paxos is not one of those “vacation with hustle and bustle” places. Here, the inner voice speaks, not the agenda. Your mood decides where you will have a coffee in the morning and on which rocks you will watch the sunset. Nevertheless, if you are one of those who ask “What to do in Paxos?”, I have listed plenty of enjoyable suggestions below.

1. Go to the Sea in the Silence of the Morning: Go down to the beach before the crowds wake up. Shoeless, quiet, unhurried... The water is almost like glass. Starting the day with this calmness is like resetting the mind. Whether on the gentle shore of Mongonissi or in a small cove... this ritual can be the simplest but most effective thing to make your day in Paxos.

2. Getaway to Antipaxos: Antipaxos, Paxos' sister island, is only 15 minutes away. But as soon as you arrive, it makes you say “This is another world”. Take a dip in the turquoise water at Vrika and Voutoumi beaches, bring snacks because there is nothing but a few tavernas. It's an island feeling.
Bonus: Don't forget to bring a snorkel, underwater is almost like an aquarium.

3. Walk Among the Olive Trees: At the heart of Paxos are olive groves dating back to the 14th century. During Venetian times, villagers were paid for every tree planted. The result? Walking paths surrounded by hundreds of years old trees... Walk in the morning or afternoon, not when the sun is harsh. This silence in nature is like magic.

4. Watching the sunset at Erimitis: Erimitis Beach is famous not only for the sea but also for the sunset. Brave the narrow path down the cliffs because below you will be treated to a postcard view.

5. Spend an Evening in Gaios: This is the heart of the island, but not a noisy center. There are restaurants, small cafes, souvenir shops along the harbor. Sitting by the sea and having a fish dinner in the evening light, accompanied by light music... That “I'm on vacation” feeling starts right here.

 6. Rent a Boat and Visit the Bays: Whether on a guided tour or on a boat on your own. It is very enjoyable to explore the tiny bays and sea caves around Paxos. Especially the Blue Caves are like natural tunnels that glow blue in the sunlight. There are even secret places that can only be entered by swimming!

7. Visit Loggos and Lakka Villages: As quiet as Gaios, but more “village-like”, these two settlements are especially beautiful in the afternoon. Having a morning coffee and reading a book in Loggos, having raki-fish in the evening in Lakka... Each village has a soul here. And each of them makes you wish you could live here.

8. Try Local Flavors: Fresh calamari, homemade olive oil, Paxos' own wines... Eating in small local taverns right by the sea is an activity in itself. Suggestion: Ask for the daily menu. Whatever comes your way... But be sure to dip the warm bread in olive oil.

9. Do Nothing: Yes, you read that right. One of the most precious things to do in Paxos: do nothing. Find a quiet corner, sit in the shade, watch the sea, scribble something or just stop. Sometimes just existing is enough.
