Thanos Hotel
Marmaris’ Hisarönü is one of the quietest corners of the gulf. The breeze is gentle, the sea is calm, and the village atmosphere—still untouched by heavy crowds—is actually its greatest advantage. From here, you can easily reach Marmaris town center, while the beautiful bays of Selimiye, Bozburun, and Orhaniye are all just a short drive away. It’s an ideal base for travelers who want peaceful surroundings without giving up the freedom to explore a different bay each day.
🏡 Stay: The story of Thanos Hotel began in 1987, built on the foundations laid by the family’s grandfather. Today, the third generation continues to run it. Following a complete renovation in 2023, the hotel has preserved its warm family spirit while updating the comfort. The architecture remains true to the natural character of Hisarönü, with lush gardens and the village’s relaxed atmosphere still very much intact. Think clean Mediterranean lines, subtle bohemian touches, natural wood and wicker, and an understated sense of style.
I stayed in a sea-view room, waking up to the sight of the bay every morning. This season, the hotel has switched entirely to a bed-and-breakfast concept, giving guests the freedom to spend the rest of the day exploring the region. Breakfast is simple yet satisfying, featuring local honey, Aegean olives, freshly baked herb pastries, and other regional specialties.
Julian Barnes once wrote something along the lines of “time flows differently by the sea.” That feeling is easy to understand here. Waking up to birdsong and starting the day with Hisarönü’s dry, refreshing breeze has a genuinely calming effect.
Another change this season is that the hotel now welcomes families with children, as the adults-only policy has been removed.
🐶 Pets: Pet-friendly accommodation is available depending on the room category, so it’s best to confirm this when making your reservation.
The hotel’s boutique character reveals itself naturally rather than through flashy design. They remember your name, they know how you take your coffee, and nothing feels mass-produced or impersonal.
Readers of Small Hotels can enjoy 10% off throughout 2026 by using the code KUCUKOTELLER2026. Subject to availability, the offer also includes priority for early check-in, late check-out, room upgrades, and a small welcome treat waiting in your room.
If you’re planning to spend time in the area, I’d recommend three experiences: visit the legendary Kızkumu Beach in Orhaniye early in the morning before it gets busy, cool off at Turgut Waterfall, and take an evening stroll through Selimiye or Bozburun, followed by dinner by the waterfront. For swimming, besides the hotel’s own beach, İnbükü Bay, Bördübet, and Orhaniye are all excellent choices, depending on whether you’re looking for tranquility or a livelier atmosphere.
For food, Altınkum Pide is famous for its herb and cheese pide—a true local classic. İliman Hisarönü, set right by the sea, is a great choice for grilled octopus and fresh meze. And if you’re after sunset views, the waterfront restaurants around the bay are hard to beat.
