Poros Island Guide
Poros is small enough that you can easily explore it on foot or on a motorcycle. The center at the top, the top of the volcanic rock, is where all the action is. Taverns along the harbor, souvenir shops, ice cream parlors. Life flows here in the evenings. But don't be limited to the center; the other side of the island has a completely different nature. The beaches surrounded by pine trees are the biggest surprise. Love Bay (Love Beach) is a romantic and peaceful bay like its name. Russian Bay takes its name from the Russian fleet that was once here. Askeli Beach is a bit more lively, suitable for water sports and beach bar lovers. But let's not forget to say this: The sea in Poros is beautiful, but not “that famous Greek turquoise”. Still, it's a completely different pleasure to swim under the pines.
What Shouldn't You Leave Without Doing?
Go up to the Clock Tower and enjoy the view.
Take a bike or motorcycle tour on the pine roads at the back of the island.
Listen to the silence in Love Bay.
Walk along the harbor, have a Greek ice cream.
Choose a taverna for dinner, like Apagio or Karavolos. The appetizers are delicious, the seafood fresh.
If you want to escape the crowds, get some sea air, fill your stomach with Greek cuisine and your soul with nature, Poros is the place to be. Come not with great expectations, but with a quiet desire to explore, then you will feel what a special island it is.
