Places to See in Evia
One of Greece's hidden treasures, Evia Island is a place that impresses you not only with its nature but also with its history, tranquility and intertwined texture with local life. While visiting the island, you feel as if you are a guest in a place where life flows in a simple but meaningful way, rather than a touristic location.
- Edipsos Thermal Waters: Located in the north of the island, Edipsos has been a “healing point” for Greeks for years. There are spa hotels, but you can also relax by taking a dip in the natural hot springs by the sea. Going early in the morning and sitting where the sea and thermal water meet is really a different kind of serenity. One of the places that makes you say “I'm glad I came”.
- Dimosari Canyon: If you like hiking, Dimosari Canyon will enchant you. Quiet forest paths, shady waterfalls, birdsong and morning coolness give you an indescribable peace. The route is not too difficult, but water and comfortable shoes are a must. There are little surprises along the way: old stone bridges, moss-covered trees, and plenty of fresh air.
- Ancient City of Eretria: Located in the west of the island, Eretria is like a window to the past with its ancient ruins. The theater is still standing and the temple ruins shine like gold in the sun. It is not crowded, it is quiet. When you sit on the ancient stones and close your eyes, you feel that you are one step closer to thousands of years ago.
- Ancient Orea (Paleokastro): Paleokastro is in the southwest of the island and a bit more secluded. The road is a bit winding but the reward is great when you arrive: A view from high above, the smell of history on the breeze and silence. If you love ancient sites but want to escape the tour buses, this is the place to come.
- Hiliadou Beach: Located on the east coast of Evia, this beach is a favorite of locals and free-spirited travelers. Hiliadou is a pebbly beach, but the water is like glass. A day here with your back to the forest and your eyes on the endless Aegean Sea will tell you a lot. There are also campers and nudist areas. In other words, it appeals to everyone, but the main feeling is: “Relax, you are in nature.”
- Marmari Village: Marmari is far from the crowds, but it is a lively place. Fishing boats lined up along the shore, streets lined with stone houses and coffees sipped in silence. When a local grandfather smiles at you while you walk by the sea, you feel like a guest, not a tourist.
- Kimi Village: Kimi is a quiet village in northern Evia. With its colorful houses, flowery balconies and old-fashioned coffee houses, it has a very friendly atmosphere. If you like local life, conversation and a bit of “slowing down”, spending a day here will do your soul good. The harbor area by the sea is also beautiful.
- Karystos Town: Located in the southeast of the island, Karystos offers a balance of history and modernity. The Venetian castle is still standing and the views are spectacular. The city center is alive with life too; you'll enjoy the morning market, the cafes on the beach and the occasional music.
- Kymi: Harbor Kymi is a small but lively port town. Colorful fishing boats, couples walking on the beach, the sea darkening at sunset, sometimes very quiet, sometimes chirping with children's voices. You can also take the ferry from here to other parts of the island.
- Rovies: Rovies is a quiet and peaceful seaside town in the northwest.
