When we think of Kuşadası, most of us probably imagine a lively town center, crowded beaches, and summer evenings filled with energy. Güzelçamlı feels a little different from that picture: right next to the Dilek Peninsula National Park, where the sea and nature are much closer together, and where you plan your day not with the feeling of “I need to fit everything in,” but rather with the question, “How little can I do today?”

That is exactly where the true advantage of this area lies. On one side, you can stay at a beachfront hotel and spend the entire day swimming in the sea; on the other, you can easily reach the hidden bays of the National Park, hiking trails, Zeus Cave, Old Doğanbey Village, and the ancient city of Priene. Kuşadası town center is approximately 20 km away, İzmir Adnan Menderes Airport is around 100 km away, and Dilek Peninsula National Park is only about 500 meters from the hotel. In other words, this destination offers a beautiful balance for both those who want to say “I don’t want to go anywhere during my holiday” and those who enjoy exploring several small routes in a single day.

The place I stayed at in this location was @maiabeachhotel, MAIA Luxury Beach Hotel & Spa, located right on the seafront in Güzelçamlı.

The story behind the hotel actually reflects the spirit of this region. After working in tourism and the car rental industry for nearly thirty years, Ahmet Bey and Duriye Hanım decided to pursue their long-held dream of creating a boutique hotel. In 2013, they traveled along the Aegean coast from Çanakkale to Marmaris, and when they discovered this palm-lined, beachfront land in Güzelçamlı, they knew they had found the right place. Since transforming the existing building was not technically possible, they decided to start from scratch and build everything with a stronger foundation. Construction, economic challenges, and then the pandemic followed, and MAIA finally opened its doors in July 2020. As of 2026, they are now entering their seventh season.

This is not a place trying to be a large-scale holiday resort; instead, it creates a calm and well-balanced rhythm by the sea. The feeling of being a family-run property can be noticed in the smallest details. There are stories of guests returning years later and requesting the same room, staying in touch even after returning to their own countries, and even sending wedding invitations to the owners. Sometimes the true measure of a good hotel is not the size of its lobby, but how naturally guests say, “We’ll come back next year,” when they leave.

All rooms overlook the sea and the National Park. They are designed with large windows, natural tones, and simple lines. The first thing I did in the morning was not reaching for my phone, but opening the curtains. Although with an Aegean view like this, notifications really need to learn to wait.

One of the things that caught my attention about MAIA’s architecture is that they did not try to completely “redesign” nature. The palm trees on the property were not cut down; instead, they were carefully relocated by specialist teams. Even a palm tree that could not adapt to its new location was moved again. It may seem like a small detail, but it tells a lot about the philosophy of the place. Here, palm trees are not just decoration; they are part of the memory and identity of the land.

Days here flow effortlessly: a short swim in the morning, Aegean flavors at breakfast, reading a book or simply sitting by the pier with no particular purpose, exploring the National Park or joining a boat tour, and ending the day with dinner as the sun sets.

It reminds me a little of Joan Didion’s famous line: “We tell ourselves stories in order to live.” Sometimes the best chapter of that story is simply a few hours spent looking at the sea without rushing anywhere.

The hotel’s beachfront location, private beach area, and pier are especially beautiful during the early morning hours. At sunrise, the sea becomes quieter; in the late afternoon, sunset naturally turns into a moment when everyone stops for a while and simply watches. In the summer of 2026, they moved the open-air restaurant area closer to the sea, transforming dinner from an experience where you observe the view from a distance into one where you become part of the view itself.

The kitchen focuses on ingredients rather than long and overwhelming menus. Tomatoes, peppers, and seasonal vegetables are prepared before the previous summer and preserved using traditional natural methods; Aydın figs, local olive oil, honey, regional cheeses, and products from local producers find their way onto the table. In the evenings, fresh seafood, seasonal vegetables, and Aegean recipes take center stage. Instead of saying “we have everything,” the philosophy feels more like “we have what is right.”

Who is it suitable for?
It is a great choice for those looking for a peaceful getaway for a honeymoon or anniversary, travelers who prefer a smaller-scale property rather than crowded resort hotels, people who actually want to finish the book they brought with them, those who enjoy morning walks surrounded by the atmosphere of the National Park, and anyone who feels tired of planning every minute of a holiday. There is no age restriction for children, but pets are not accepted.

After staying here for a few days, there are plenty of experiences to add to your itinerary:

Explore the bays of Dilek Peninsula National Park, go hiking, and swim in İçmeler and Aydınlık bays. Join a private or group boat tour to discover hidden coves that cannot be reached by road. Realizing how close Samos Island appears from the middle of the sea is one of the Aegean’s little surprises. Visit Zeus Cave. Take a jeep safari into the mountains. Explore Old Doğanbey Village and the ancient city of Priene. Follow the Kuşadası Open-Air Theatre concerts during the summer months. Join vineyard visits, grape harvest experiences, and local wine tastings. Visit the ancient city of Ephesus at night. I can say that ancient stones look completely different after sunset.

The region also has its own small food routes. You can wander through the art-filled streets of Caferli Village and stop by melekablaninyeri1997 for an Aegean-style breakfast. I could not find a verified Instagram account belonging to Saklı Bahçe in Kuşadası, so I am not adding a username to avoid tagging the wrong account. A glass of wine while watching the sunset at Davutlar beach is a wonderful idea. In Güzelçamlı, try Bozdoğan-style pide and Aydın’s famous tahini pide; on your way back, do not forget to buy bazlama from Ağaçlı Village. Bringing home fresh bazlama from your holiday might be one of the smartest luggage strategies in this region.
