Two Days in Bolu: Forest Walks, Lake Views and Small Hotels
We plan a weekend in Bolu around a morning in the forest and an early return to the hotel. Two days give us time for a lakeside walk, an unhurried breakfast and a few hours enjoying the room we have chosen. As autumn gives way to winter, we take the shorter days into account and build the itinerary around one main outing.
Our base is the small hotels along the Abant road. On day two, choose either Lake Abant or Gölcük. The hotels below are not on the lakeshore: their appeal lies in gardens, wooden houses and rooms with fireplaces. For a longer trip, explore our Bolu hotel collection.
When to visit
Autumn brings changing leaves and cool walks; winter offers snowy scenery when weather and roads allow. In November, neither leaf colours nor snow can be guaranteed. Spring invites time in the garden, while summer walks are best planned for the morning. Weekdays can help avoid busy weekends around the lakes.
Day one: A gentle start along the Abant road
Arrive around lunchtime and leave time for a meal before check-in. Explore the hotel grounds, sit in the garden and take a short walk. Rather than adding another lake, enjoy the place you have chosen. A house with a garden works well for a family; a room with a fireplace can shape a weekend for two.
If the weather is clear, ask your host for a nearby walking route and return before dark. That leaves time for a book and a warm drink. Check fireplace arrangements, firewood and extra charges when booking. If you would like dinner at the hotel, ask about restaurant hours.
Four small hotels near the Abant road
Abant Cozy Homes: A house with a kitchen and garden
Abant Cozy Homes, in Ömerler village, suits travellers who like to set their own pace. A kitchen, living room and private garden make it an option for families or friends. Houses with fireplaces are available; hot tubs and layouts vary. Cooking at home can be as much a part of the evening as dining out. Breakfast costs extra: ask about service in your house or the shared restaurant. Confirm the house name and sleeping arrangements.
Abant Villa Otel: Time in the garden
In Akçaalan, Abant Villa Otel combines a garden with wooden architecture. Outdoor space appeals to families, while rooms with fireplaces may suit couples. Balconies and hot tubs depend on room category, so request the precise option you want. Take time over breakfast before setting out for the lake and ask about nearby dining addresses.
Abant Kartal Yuvası Otel: A room worth returning to
Near Dereceören village, Abant Kartal Yuvası Otel offers wooden interiors and room options with fireplaces or hot tubs. Consider it for a short break for two with time set aside indoors. Facilities in photographs depend on room type: confirm the view and amenities together. The restaurant is useful if you prefer not to drive again in the evening. Check your meal plan rather than assuming dinner is included.
Abant Yeşil Ev Masal Evleri: Wooden houses for a family break
Abant Yeşil Ev Masal Evleri has themed wooden houses that may particularly appeal to families. Its Abant road location makes it a base for a lake excursion. Choose your house accordingly if a fireplace matters to you. Garden time and a long breakfast give the stay a rhythm beyond sightseeing. Winter photographs show the property in that season rather than promising snow on your dates.
Day two: Lake Abant or Gölcük?
Lake Abant National Park: With a base along the Abant road, make the lake your main outing. Set off after breakfast and choose a walk suited to the weather and your energy. You need not complete the full circuit: a shorter lakeside section and a pause for the view can be enough. Leave lunch for the return journey.
Gölcük Nature Park: This is an alternative for a shorter lakeside visit. Enjoy a walk and photograph stops before heading home. Abant and Gölcük lie in different directions, so both in one day means more driving. With two nights, leave the second lake for day three. Check road conditions and current park access before travelling.
Breakfast and dinner
Breakfast deserves its own place in this itinerary. Ask about eggs, cheese, preserves and hot dishes, then plan your walk around it. At Abant Cozy Homes, breakfast is charged separately: choose between preparing your own and ordering service. At other hotels, check what your booking includes.
Cemil Piknik, Şömine Et Mangal and Abant Gökdere Restoran are dining options along the road. Confirm opening hours, menus and reservation requirements. Hotel restaurant service should also be checked. See our Abant food guide for more ideas.
