Things to do in Kimolos Island

In the heart of the Aegean, there is an island that no one knows the name of, but those who have been there once cannot forget it: Kimolos. The question of “what to do?” here is not like a list, it's more about following whatever you feel at that moment. But still, here are a few ideas for those who want to immerse themselves in this island.

Chorio is the heart of Kimolos. White houses, stone streets, geraniums, blue shutters. It will all look familiar, but nowhere else will it feel quite like this. Wander aimlessly through its streets. Time seems to slow down as you make your way into the castle. Stand on a street corner, maybe an old aunt will hand you a handmade cookie, maybe a child will show you their cat. Everything is so real.

There are two small but characterful museums on the island. When you look under the glass floor of the Archaeology Museum, it is as if you are greeting the people who once lived here. The Folklore Museum tells the life of the islanders. Everything is familiar but very different. It's as if there is a magic on those old things.

When you go to Prassa Beach, you might think “did they Photoshop this color here?”. The answer is no. The water is really like that. While snorkeling in Ellinika, seeing the ancient ruins under the water gives you a strange feeling: You get a slight chill and at the same time you are mesmerized. At Rema Beach, sit in front of the old fishing shelters carved into the rocks and listen to the silence. It's like another world.

Skiadi is a rock, but not just any rock. It's a huge nature sculpture in the shape of a mushroom. When you walk there, you can't hear a sound along the way. The sound of the wind, the rustling of the stones under your feet. It's like meditation.

If you have time, take a boat and go around the island. The caves of Gerakia, the hot springs in Agioklima, all of them are like nature's gifts to the island. But the real surprise is Polyaigos. Deserted, pristine, as if the world is starting all over again. Sometimes the sounds of uncrowded places resonate more.

Walking in Kimolos, just walking is an activity in itself. Set off without looking at the map, just wondering what the island will show you. Sometimes a herd of goats, sometimes coolness in the shade of a stone house, sometimes silence where you can hear the breath of the island.

If you like to try local flavors, try ladenia, a bread with tomatoes, onions and olives. Manouri cheese, house wines, fish just out of the sea... All simple but real flavors.
