Things to do in Kadikoy
Kadıköy is perhaps the most like itself neighborhood in Istanbul. It neither aspires to something nor tries to be someone else. It is not calm but peaceful. Crowded but not suffocating. If you leave a little early in the morning, it's good to grab a coffee and walk to Moda beach. Cats along the way, people sitting on benches, all in their own way. And so are you. No one will bother you. Kadıköy Bazaar is an urban labyrinth. There is a different world on every street. Fishermen shout, bagel sellers say hello. You eat at a small artisan restaurant, buy a dessert, and then keep walking “let's see where to have a cup of tea”. Everything happens without a plan, but in the end it is beautiful. Streets full of graffiti, small galleries, cafes with 3 tables, yeldeğirmeni is a bit quieter but just as colorful. There are places where you can sit and read a book for hours. No one seems to be in a hurry here. That's the beauty of it. Kadife Sokak (Street of Bars) comes alive at night, but you don't necessarily have to sit somewhere. It is enough to go to the beach with a friend and sit down. There is no place for conversation in Kadıköy, everywhere is a place if there are people to talk to. At the end of the day, you take a ferry across, maybe you don't throw bagels to the seagulls, but you lean your head against the window and think. Tiredness is good, it reminds you that you are alive. Kadıköy gives it to you simply and quietly.
