Rebetiko Hotel: A Charming Stay in the Heart of Ayvalık
While wandering through Ayvalık, the streets that feel like an open-air museum completely captivate me. The historical traces left behind by the Greeks, the warm and friendly locals, restaurants full of surprises, antique shops, Cunda Island, and the famous Sarımsaklı Beach… As you begin exploring the stone-paved streets of Ayvalık’s old town, places like Taksiyarhis Church, Macaron Street, traditional stone houses, and colorful bay-windowed homes make you want to capture every corner. In Ayvalık, you feel as if you have been transported into the dusty pages of history…

My accommodation recommendation is Rebetiko Hotel ~ @rebetiko.ayvalik, a newly discovered gem run by a lovely family and the only hotel with a swimming pool in the center of Ayvalık.

Rebetiko is a hotel that perfectly reflects the spirit of Ayvalık, with a peaceful courtyard surrounded by lush green ivy where you can spend hours relaxing. Located on a quiet street where the sounds of the city suddenly fade away, the hotel is housed in a historic stone building and features only six rooms. Its central location, within walking distance of everything, makes it a strong candidate to become one of my favorite places to stay in Ayvalık.

Because the hotel is located in a historic building, there is even an old cistern beneath the property. Among the rooms, some also offer sea views, but my personal favorite is the Okeanos room. From its terrace, you can enjoy a beautiful sunset along with views of Cunda Island. I especially recommend this room for families or couples who enjoy spacious and comfortable stays. The other rooms range from 30 to 75 square meters.

Thanks to the swimming pool in the garden, cooling off during the warm Aegean summer days is effortless. Make sure to meet the owners, Bala and Mehmet Bey, whose warm smiles, genuine hospitality, and friendly conversations make the stay even more special.

In the mornings, the irresistible smell of freshly made pişi (traditional fried dough) is enough to get you out of bed. The homemade jams served at breakfast, along with natural molasses and honey, bring the authentic flavors of the Aegean to your table. A delicious breakfast filled with fresh local ingredients awaits you at Rebetiko. In the afternoon, you can enjoy a beer and fries in the courtyard or sip on their delightful cocktails while soaking in the atmosphere. Remember, you are in the Aegean — everything tastes better here!
