Places to Eat in Folegandros Island
The cuisine of Folegandros is full of local delicacies, very much in keeping with the calm and authentic atmosphere of the island. Since the island is far from the sea, fish products are not so common here. Instead, the island's most famous dish is “matsata”, homemade pasta, usually served with goat meat. Rabbit meat is also used quite often in this cuisine and it is possible to discover different and interesting flavors. Among the desserts of Folegandros, “karpuzenia”, a watermelon dessert, is famous. Although we didn't try it, trying the island's unique flavors should always be part of a local experience. During the daytime, the narrow streets of Hora are peaceful and quiet, but in the evening the situation changes. The tavernas are almost full for dinner, the atmosphere of the island changes and young tourists gather in the village square, especially around the church. Some of them head for the bars or the only nightclub to explore the nightlife. Folegandros offers a small but enjoyable nightlife. By the way, since the island is small and most places accept cash, it's a good idea to have enough cash or debit cards with you.
