🗝️ Where to Stay: We stayed at Nefes Ada Evleri, located right in the heart of town, just beside Namazgah Square. It’s not a single house but rather a carefully restored collection of historic stone buildings transformed into five distinct accommodation options: Nefes Garden House, Nefes Courtyard House, Stone Building Garden Floor, Stone Building Suite Apartment, and Stone Building Rooftop Duplex. Each has its own private entrance and unique personality—some open onto gardens, others onto courtyards, while the duplex overlooks the rooftops of the island.

They have been welcoming guests since 2023. The idea behind the project is simple: at a time when many islands are rapidly giving way to hotel chains, the goal was to preserve the character of traditional Bozcaada stone houses while adapting them for modern living.

What all the houses have in common is a deep respect for the original architecture. The stone walls, soaring ceilings, and authentic floor plans have been carefully preserved, while improvements have been made discreetly behind the scenes to enhance comfort. Wherever you stay, mornings begin with brewing your own coffee in your own kitchen and enjoying it in your private garden or courtyard. Instead of hearing the sounds of the street from a hotel lobby, you experience them from what genuinely feels like your own home. In his writings about the islands, Sait Faik often suggests that living by the sea is, in many ways, a journey back to oneself. That’s exactly the feeling here—a peaceful corner that remains independent from the crowds, with five different ways to experience it.

Depending on the property, the houses comfortably accommodate between 4 and 7 guests, and the most suitable option is determined together during the reservation process.

The fact that many families return year after year speaks for itself. The owner, Esen Durmaz, also places great value on the island’s sense of community. Nefes Ada Evleri has been among the long-standing supporters of the Bozcaada International Ecological Documentary Festival (BIFED).

The properties are not pet-friendly, but there is no minimum age requirement for children. The most suitable house is chosen according to your group size during the booking process. When availability allows, they are also flexible with early check-in and late check-out.

📍 Location: If you’re not bringing a car—or simply enjoy walking to dinner in the evenings—this location couldn’t be more convenient. It’s right in the center while remaining pleasantly tucked away from the noise. After breakfast, you can lose yourself in the island’s stone streets, and in the evening, stroll down to the tavern district without needing transportation. For swimming, Ayazma and Habbele beaches are only a 5–10 minute drive away.

📚 Three suggestions for your day: Visit the Church of the Virgin Mary to explore the island’s multicultural past; walk to Polente Lighthouse and the wind turbines for sunset; and simply wander the vineyard roads without a destination. Visitors arriving between May and June may also coincide with the Bozcaada Vintage Festival, Bozcaada Jazz Festival, or the Bozcaada Half Marathon.

🍳 For breakfast and coffee: Petit Café, Kahverengi, and Rengigül are all excellent choices, while those looking for a quieter atmosphere should stop by Salhane.

🍽️ For dinner: Yalova Restaurant and Vahit’in Yeri are long-established island favorites. Hasan Tevfik offers a more relaxed, intimate tavern experience. End the evening with a glass of local wine at Tenedion Winehouse.
