How to get to Kavala

Kavala is a lovely coastal city in the north of Greece. Unfortunately, it is not possible to reach it with a direct flight from Turkey. This does not mean that you cannot reach Kavala. You have several practical and pleasant alternatives for transportation.

By Airplane

If you want to go by plane, the most convenient options are to fly to Athens or Thessaloniki. After Athens, you can either take a domestic flight to Kavala or you can take a bus or rent a car and travel by road. However, Thessaloniki offers a closer and more practical route. The distance between Thessaloniki and Kavala is approximately 165 kilometers and takes 2-2.5 hours by road. A pleasant journey awaits you either by bus or rental car.

By Bus

One of the easiest ways to get to Kavala from Istanbul is by bus. There are companies organizing regular bus services from Turkey to Kavala. Usually organized as an overnight trip, you can be in Kavala before dawn.

By Ferry

There is also a ferry alternative for those who prefer sea transportation. It is possible to reach Kavala with ferries departing from Piraeus Port of Athens. It can be a nice option especially for those who want to see the islands. There are also ferry services to Kavala from Aegean islands such as Rhodes, Kos, Lesbos and Limni. The most used route among these islands is the Limni-Kavala line. If you want to add an island visit to your vacation, this route might be for you.
