Bozburun or Selimiye? Or Both?

Bozburun and Selimiye, which compete with each other in terms of exquisite bays, of course have their own unique characteristics! For example, Selimiye is more bohemian than Bozburun, while Bozburun is very assertive with the luxury boats and visitors it hosts in its harbor. In addition to the beautiful bays, another point where the two meet at the same point is their flawless natural beauty... Therefore, if you are going to choose one of them, you should do a thorough research. However, our suggestion would be to spend a few days of the same vacation in Bozburun and a few days in Selimiye. Because they both have incredible surprises that will make you very happy!

What to do in Selimiye?

Despite its small size, there are many places to see and many activities to do in Selimiye. Of course, the first thing you should do is to enjoy the Aegean Sea in the beautiful Selimiye bays and beaches. However, if you say "I like sandy beaches", Selimiye beach may not make you happy because it is stony. However, the bays around Selimiye are beautiful enough to make everyone who loves swimming very happy! The easiest way to swim in these bays is of course to join boat tours! Boat tours visiting different bays are organized in the village. You can jump on one of these tours and dive into the glassy Aegean waters. Everywhere you go in Selimiye is beautiful. However, we recommend you to join the boat tours covering Bademli Bay, Aquarium and Haunted House. Don't forget to take a snorkel with you on your boat tour! Because the underwater world is waiting for you in Selimiye bays with all its beauty...

Another thing you should do in Selimiye is to sit at one of the fishermen with a sea view and feast on fresh seafood! Dalgıç Eskisi Fish House and Odetta Restaurant are some of the best places to enjoy the view…

If you are confident, it can also be great to explore Selimiye by bicycle. For example, you can rent a bicycle to visit the lighthouse and the church, which are among the must-see places in Selimiye and are very close to the beach. If you say, "This is not enough, let me reach the highest point of Selimiye", you can go to Aşarkaya and Sarıkaya and see the ruins of the ancient period.

What to do in Bozburun?

Compared to Selimiye, the number of things to do in Bozburun is a little less. However, just like Selimiye, the most important thing you should do in Bozburun is to take a boat tour and visit the beautiful Bozburun bays. Here, too, beautiful bays that will stay in your mind for a long time are waiting for you. Our favorite is the boat tours that include Ada Strait, Aquarium and Dirsekbükü!

If you visited Bozburun with your own car or if you plan to rent a car, you can visit the villages and beaches around Bozburun. For example, it can be a pleasant experience to see Kızkumu, where you can walk from one end of the coast to the other and listen to its extraordinary legend from Marmaris locals... Or if you want to sunbathe on the sun loungers spread among the pine trees and swim in a sea that looks like the Maldives, you can visit İncekum.

How to get to Selimiye and Bozburun?

If you plan to come to Selimiye, which is about 45 km from the center of Marmaris, with your own vehicle from Istanbul, you have to risk a journey of more than 8 hours. However, if you make this journey by following the foothills of the Kaz Mountains via Gelibolu, you can be sure that the views you will see along the way will be worth it. However, if you are coming from Ankara or other Anatolian cities, the Kaz Mountains route will take you a long time. For those who will not come by their own vehicle, many bus companies have all day long flights to Marmaris throughout the year. After arriving in Marmaris, you need to use the buses going to the minibus Selimiye. Those who want to use the airway should buy a ticket for Dalaman Airport, which is about 150 km from Marmaris.

If you ask "So how to get to Bozburun", we can say that the answer is almost the same as Selimiye. The only difference between them is that Bozburun is located 50 km from Marmaris and Selimiye is 45 km away. For this reason, after following the same route to Marmaris, you can reach Bozburun after a journey of about 1.5 hours. If you are coming by your own car, after you arrive in Marmaris, it is enough to take the Datça road junction, turn to Orhaneli route and follow the Bozburun signs. If you come by bus, you can use Bozburun minibuses departing from Marmaris center during the summer. However, let us note here that these minibuses are not very frequent during the off-season. If you prefer to come by plane, you need to buy a plane ticket for Dalaman Airport just like Selimiye.

Delicacies You Must Try in Selimiye and Bozburun

Whether you are in Selimiye or on the shores of Bozburun! It doesn't matter which one. Beautiful flavors of Aegean cuisine await you. Undoubtedly, stuffed zucchini blossoms are one of the must-try dishes on these shores. We are sure you will love this dish, which combines olive oil, the mainstay of Aegean cuisine, with the zucchini flowers picked at the first light of the morning. After you've had your fill of zucchini blossoms, you can taste the herb dishes and fresh appetizers that are indispensable in Marmaris cuisine. For example, the neighbor's precious Cretan pate and, if you can stand the pain, the atom is very famous here! Unlike Selimiye, Bozburun has another beauty. Of course, we are talking about Bozburun rusks! Don't return from Bozburun without trying them while you are here, or even buying them as a gift for your loved ones.

- If you can spare enough time during your Bozburun vacation, explore the surrounding area! For example, if you head south, you will come across Kasara on the shore of Serçe Harbor. It is thought to be a place from the Hellenistic period. Seeing the ruins in the surrounding area can add joy to your vacation.

- If you are curious about what happened on the historical stage of Selimiye, you should definitely visit the historical theater, which is very close to the center!

- We cannot say that the nightlife of Selimiye and Bozburun is very lively. However, live music nights are held in some cafes on the beach side. One night of your vacation, you can set up by the sea and let yourself to the rhythm of the music.

- In Selimiye, you will definitely come across Paprika, the village's favorite place! You should step through the door without thinking. A wide variety of custard and desserts await you inside. You will love both these desserts and the atmosphere of the cafe. Our favorite is the pineapple custard! If you are good with desserts, you can really give this light dessert served in pineapple a chance.
