Places to see in Fethiye

Fethiye, with its sea, nature, and history, is a beautiful holiday destination. It offers everything you expect from a vacation. If you don’t want to stay in just one place and want to explore the surroundings, you’ll find many alternatives to see and visit.

When you arrive in Fethiye, you can visit the ancient city of Termessos. It is an old and magnificent city built on the Taurus Mountains. Within Termessos National Park, many animal and plant species are also under protection.

You can take boats from Ölüdeniz to Butterfly Valley. This valley, a corner of paradise, has been declared a protected area, and construction is prohibited. From here, you can also hike to Faralya Village.

You can visit Belcekız and Katrancı Bays. Even on the way there, you will be mesmerized by the long, tree-lined roads. You can head to Ölüdeniz for a beautiful day filled with blues and greens.

If you have a car, you can drive around the cape known as Oyuk Tepe. If you enjoy hiking, pass by 1st and 2nd Karagözler, cross the harbor, and follow the coastal path. The view from here is amazing, and you can take pictures of the sea and fishermen below. There are beautiful bays at the foot of the cliff, so don’t miss them! If you prefer, you can also take a boat tour to explore the coves from the sea.

One of the coves on the way is Boncuk Bay, adjacent to Kalemya. It is highly suitable for water sports and swimming.

See Fethiye Castle, which rises in the south of the city. It is believed to belong to the Knights of Saint John. Apart from a few inscriptions carved into the walls and a historically unclear cistern, there are small and simple rock tombs on the eastern face of the hill.

Fethiye Museum, which has two exhibition halls Archaeological and Ethnographic Artifacts Halls features ceramic works and sculptures in the archaeology section. The ethnographic section displays local handwoven examples, dastar looms, and silver jewelry. In the open exhibition, large stone artifacts, sarcophagi, and the Izraza Monument are displayed.

You should also see the Cezayirli Mosque, built in 1791 by Cezayirli Hasan Pasha, and the 14-domed Fethiye Hamam, which is still in use.

The main inns you can visit in Fethiye are Ilıca Inn (on Üzümlü Road), İncir Inn, Karatoprak Inn (on Inbecik Road), Paşa Inn on the Kemer-Seki Road, Daydur Inn, and Naldöken Inns.

Within the city, the Lycian Rock Tombs, dating back to the 4th century BC from the Lycian period, are noteworthy. These are the famous tombs carved into the natural rock, which have become the symbol of the city. You can reach the most beautiful and magnificent of the tombs, Amintas, by climbing the many stone steps. The most important sarcophagus tomb is located in the city center, right next to the post office.
