Selection and Visit Standards

How We Select Hotels

We discover character and look at the whole experience.

What makes a hotel special is sometimes its architecture, sometimes its location, and sometimes the person greeting you at the door. For us, a good stay begins with the thoughtful harmony of these details. At Small and Luxurious Hotels (Küçük ve Lüks Oteller), we explore distinct properties across Turkey and Greece, shaping our collection through editorial evaluations, personal visits, and guest feedback. Our goal is not to ensure that every hotel is the same, but to discover what makes each one unique and to accurately convey which travel expectations it fulfills.

What do we look for in our collection?

Character and Identity

We select places with their own story, atmosphere, or approach. This identity can manifest in a historic structure,a contemporary design, family management, or the connection it builds with its surroundings.

Attentive Hospitality

From arrival to departure, we look for an attentive, respectful, and consistent service mindset. Listening to guest needs, providing accurate information, and offering solutions when an issue arises are essential parts of the experience for us.

Cleanliness, Comfort, and Maintenance

A beautiful view or impressive decor is not enough on its own. We place high importance on the cleanliness of rooms and common areas, the comfort of beds and bathrooms, overall maintenance, and ensuring that all facilities are fully operational. We evaluate every address within its own stay category and promised experience.

Connection to Location

We value hotels that integrate local architecture, culture, producers, and neighborhood life into the experience. We expect them to offer guests a great starting point for exploring their surroundings.

Care at the Table

For properties offering food and beverage service, we examine product quality, freshness, preparation, and presentation. We pay special attention to menus that highlight local flavors and seasonal produce. A hotel does not need to have a restaurant, but it must deliver its offered services with care.

Accurate Information and Value for Experience

We expect photos, descriptions, and listed amenities to accurately reflect the real conditions guests will encounter. Location details, room differences, house rules, and additional charges must be transparent. We evaluate price alongside the comfort, service, location, and overall experience provided.

Respect for Surroundings and People

We care deeply about businesses that show respect for local community life, employees, natural resources, and cultural heritage. We highlight environmental practices using concrete examples and share certifications to the extent they can be verified.
How does our evaluation process work?

Research and Pre-Evaluation

We discover new properties through editorial research, destination trips, recommendations, and direct applications. We examine the hotel’s concept, location, up-to-date visuals, amenities, and existing guest feedback. Submitting an application does not guarantee admission into the collection.

On-Site Inspection

During our visits, we inspect rooms and accessible public spaces, evaluating the management’s approach, atmosphere, and service standard. The scope of an inspection may vary depending on visit conditions. We distinguish between an overnight stay evaluation and a day visit; we never portray an unexperienced service as if we have tried it.

Editorial Decision

All gathered data and visit notes are assessed alongside our selection criteria. We focus not only on a hotel’s strengths, but also on which travelers it suits best and the key details to know before booking. Acceptance depends on the hotel’s alignment with our collection and our holistic evaluation.

Accurate and Clear Presentation

We portray accepted properties according to their true identity. We strive to present room features, facilities, location, services, and key terms of use as clearly as possible. We make a point of highlighting details that influence travel decisions—such as age restrictions for children, pet policies, seasonal services, or accessibility information.

Remaining in the Collection Requires Continued Care

An initial evaluation is just the beginning of our relationship. We monitor changes in hotel information, guest feedback, and direct accounts shared with us.

A change in management or concept, extensive renovations, recurring service issues, or a noticeable gap between marketing and reality can trigger a re-evaluation. As needed, we request updated information from management or schedule a re-inspection.

When a problem is reported, we review the feedback details together with the property’s explanation. Where necessary,we request corrections, share recommendations, or update published content. We reserve the right to suspend or remove properties that no longer align with our standards.

Commercial Partnerships and Editorial Decisions

We may form commercial partnerships with businesses in our collection through paid promotion, memberships, or booking-based affiliations.

While these partnerships define the scope of services we offer, decisions regarding admission to or retention in the collection rely strictly on our editorial evaluation. Paying a fee alone is never sufficient for admission or a positive review.

Invited visits or hosted stays do not constitute a commitment to a favorable review. Sponsored content and advertising campaigns are explicitly declared in relevant publications.

Share Your Experience With Us

Our visits reflect our observations during a specific period. Hotel services and conditions can evolve over time, and guest feedback helps us stay updated on these changes.

If you have stayed at a property in our collection, you can share the hotel’s name, your travel dates, and the details of your experience with us through our contact page.

A good recommendation starts with accurate information and gains value through care.
