Sacred House - Urgup / Cappadocia
Sacred House is a 250 years old Greek mansion hewn from caves where history, art and modern comforts meet to provide that certain old-world touch.... It is as magical and unusual as you could imagine at this very individual hotel. Everywhere are curling candelabras, reverent icons, colorful hangings and ornate fireplaces. Once the mansion of a Greek aristocrat, it is now a hotel where special courtesies are provided in an elegant, refined setting. Precious decorations and beautiful antique furnishings enhance the atmosphere and luxurious comfort of the 12 totally different rooms. Each room is decorated in its own very distinctive style, the interiors reflecting the formation of the rock of which they are part. All 12 “concept design” rooms which are all different from eachother, keep the marks of different periods and different antique anatolian culture and offers a hidden comfort at the same time. In the hotel where classic and neo-classic styles meet with the basic colours of romanticism, many fire lights offer a warm and romantic athmosphere to its guests. All the restoration and decoration of the mansion is contreived with an amatour soul by one of the owners of the hotel, Turan Gülcüoğlu. Our potions, like the tartly refreshing minted lemonade that greets you on arrival, or the insistently moreish cheery liqueur of a forgotten recipe that awaits you in a crystal decanter when you first enter the room. A variety of fine Anatolian and international wine complementing our dinner menu of old, long forgotten cuisine of antiquity. Your dinner at Sacred House, served in a medieval atmosphere with antique candle sticks, silverware, and chevalier tables will be a ‘knightly’ one to remember a long time. For the searchers, who are looking for something sacred in their lives, a sacred love, passion or affection... Editor: Its owner, Turan, is the graduate of the Tourism Faculty at Bilkent University. In our opinion, he certainly is one of the most original and creative person in Turkey. He does not have any limit when it comes to designing and creativity with what he does. Sacred House, a historical Greek mansion of 250 years, had been named after the strong feelings such as the affection, passion, love or belief rather than the religious meaning of The Sacred House its meaning, had also a sacred power. The aim is to be able to create a haven or a shelter with its own soul, aura and energy, where the people could be purified from the effects of the rituals of the systems that they belong to, without noticing, such as politics, popular culture, bureaucracy in large cities. 12 concept design rooms, bearing the signs of the different ancient Anatolian cultures and ages, completely different from each other, also offer the hidden aspects of modern comfort. The light used is made of fire in a place, where the classical and neo-classical lines are met with the main colors of romance, offers a warm and romantic environment to its guests. We say try Lamb Stewed With Lettuce and Fennel (Byzantium recipe) surely.

İyi Tatiller...

Ürgüp, 20 km east of Nevsehir, is one of the most important centres of the Cappadocia region. Like Goreme, it had numerous names in the course of its history, and its cave dwellings scattered around the village make it a very tourist-friendly destination. It has many hotels and guest-houses, good entertainment, old Greek houses from before the population exchange of 1923, and an atmosphere which has remained attached to its tradition despite a modernising tourist industry.
With a geological structure of volcanic formations, Urgup was established within the region which had been shaped into fantastic forms known as ‘Fairy Chimneys’, through erosions of water and wind. The were formed as floodwater poured down the sides of the valleys, combined with strong winds which tore away the softer volcanic rocks, resulting in this unique landscape. It is an important centre in Cappadocia, and has been known by many names: Osian (Assiana), Hagios Prokopios (Byzantine), Bashisar (Seljuk), Burgat Kaalesi (Ottoman) and finally Urgup, from shortly after the founding of the Turkish Republic.
