The outdoor walls of Turkey's culture office in Paris's Champs-Elysees Avenue have been decorated with banners and posters promoting the candidacy of the western province of İzmir for the Expo 2020.
İzmir's promotion campaign began just as soon as the letter reached the Expo’s secretary-general. Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism's campaign to promote İzmir's candidacy kicked off in Paris. The walls surrounding Turkey's Culture Office in Paris have been covered with banners and posters promoting İzmir's Expo 2020 candidacy.
Expo 2010 was held in Shanghai, China, and was visited by 73 million people. Expo 2015 will be held in Milan, Italy. In a written statement Tuesday, the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism said Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan had sent a letter to the Vicente Gonzales, secretary-general of the Bureau International des Expositions, or BIE, on May 28 regarding İzmir's candidacy for the Expo 2020.
Expo 2020 is a universal-scale registered exposition time slot that can be assigned by the BIE between 2011 and 2014. Expo 2020 will take place between April 30 and Oct. 31, 2020.
