A week of wonders at Mandarin Boutique Hotel

A week of wonders at Mandarin Boutique Hotel

Potential guests considering their first stay at Mandarin Boutique Hotel sometimes ask us whether there would be enough to do for a week, or whether they are likely to get bored after a couple of days. Although our small boutique hotel enjoys a very peaceful, rural setting in an unspoilt corner of south-west Turkey, there is no shortage of things to do and places to visit nearby, so perhaps the question should be whether a week would be long enough! Naturally, every traveller will have their own interests and preferences (some of our guests come specifically for our beautiful country walks, others will happily spend two or even three weeks relaxing in blissful idleness), but the following example should give you an idea how varied a typical week's holiday at Mandarin can be:

Double rooms with four-poster beds and large Jacuzzis

Day 1 - Make yourself at home

Whether you have travelled from another city, country or continent, enjoy the scenic approach to Mandarin as you leave the busy tourist areas far behind you. Feel the pressures of modern life slip away as you enter our peaceful, subtropical garden and settle into your luxurious guestroom complete with super-kingsize four-poster bed. Join us for complimentary tea and pastries if you arrive in the afternoon, or relax with a drink from our honesty bar. After freshening up in your marble shower room, tuck into a delicious 5-course dinner freshly prepared using local produce and authentic regional recipes.

Day 2 - Life's a beach

One of the first things most summer visitors to  Turkey wish to do is to swim in the clear, warm waters of the Mediterranean sea. Although Mandarin stands in an elevated position, you can ramble down to the unspoilt rocky cove of Aktas with crystal-clear waters that are perfect for snorkelling, or reach the sandy beaches of Kabak and Kidrak, a short drive or bus ride away. Should you prefer a resort beach with a full range of facilities, the much-photographed beach and lagoon at Oludeniz can also be reached by public bus and offers a range of activities including scuba-diving.

Day 3 - Fun in Fethiye

The bustling harbour town of Fethiye is approximately 20 km from Mandarin Boutique Hotel and can easily be reached using the local minibus service. Immerse yourself in the sights, sounds and scents of the colourful bazaar and enjoy some retail therapy in the surrounding shopping streets. Marvel at the traditional wooden sailing boats lining the harbour, and explore the ancient Lycian rock tombs, the Hellenistic theatre and the medieval castle. To round the day off in the most relaxing way, treat yourself to a cleansing full-body massage in the town's Hamam (Turkish Bath).

Day 4 - Explore the countryside on foot

Our location in the sleepy hamlet of Faralya, surrounded by gloriously unspoilt countryside, is perfect for keen walkers and nature lovers.  For those particularly interested in hiking, we even run special guided Walking Weeks in spring and autumn, but anyone with a reasonable degree of fitness will enjoy at least a day or two rambling along the ancient paths, breathing in the pine and herb-scented air and gazing at the ever-changing coastal and mountain vistas.  And if you've overdone the exercise, you can always soothe aching muscles in large Jacuzzi provided in each room!

Don't forget your walking boots!

Or just relax by the pool

Day 5 - Recharge your batteries

Although there is so much to be enjoyed and experienced in the surrounding area, it would be a shame not to allocate at least some time to pure rest and relaxation. Our rural location, together with the fact that we only have eight guestrooms and do not allow young children under the age of 12, means that our grounds are an oasis of peace and serenity, so settle down by our sparkling swimming pool with a good book and your favourite drink and enjoy a bit of "me-time".

Day 6 - Discover ancient treasures

When it comes to archaeological sites, south-west Turkey boasts an embarrassment of riches, as successive civilisations dating back thousands of years have all left their legacy. Amongst the ancient sites that can easily be visited from here - either by hire car or as a tailor-made excursion with our reliable local taxi driver - are Tlos, Xanthos, Pinara, Patara, Cadyanda, Caunos, Kybira and Sagalassos, whilst other nearby attractions include the imposing gorge at Saklikent and the deserted village of Kaya. Day 7 - Take to the seas

What better way to appreciate the beautiful seascapes of the Turquoise Coast than from a boat. By staying at Mandarin, you don't have to join a crowded tourist boat trip, but we can arrange a private boat excursion (for up to 4 people) with a captain friend of ours. Discover hidden coves and stunning sea caves, and swim off beaches that are difficult or impossible to reach by land.  Please click here for details.

Day 8 - Time to say...

...not goodbye, we hope, but au revoir! We hope you will have enjoyed your stay at Mandarin Boutique Hotel, and will wish to return - either because you didn't manage to fit everything in after all (we told you a week might not be long enough...) or because you simply fancy doing it all over again! Before you leave, we would be grateful if you could share your experiences with future visitors by writing in our guestbook; to see what previous guests have written, please click here.

We hope to welcome you back soon!
