Amasya guide
Amasya has a long and rich history dating back to ancient times. The city was founded by the Hittites in the 2nd millennium BCE and was later ruled by the Persians, Alexander the Great, and the Kingdom of Pontus. In the 1st century BCE, the city became the capital of the Kingdom of Pontus and was an important center of culture and learning during the Hellenistic and Roman periods.
During the Middle Ages, Amasya was ruled by the Byzantines and later the Seljuk Turks. In the 13th century, it came under the control of the Ottoman Empire and served as the capital of a province of the same name. Under Ottoman rule, the city continued to be an important center of culture and learning and was home to many poets, scholars, and statesmen.
In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Amasya was a major center of the Turkish National Movement and played an important role in the country's War of Independence. Today, it is a popular tourist destination known for its rich history, natural beauty, and traditional architecture.
